Social Media Recovery
What to Do When Your Social Media Account Is Compromised
Discovering that a business social media account has been hacked or lost is stressful, and the instinct is often to panic or try random fixes. A calmer, more methodical approach gives you the best chance of a legitimate recovery.
Start by documenting what you know: when you first noticed the compromise, what changed, and what evidence you have of legitimate ownership — original account creation details, linked email or phone number, past invoices or ad receipts if it's a business page.
Use the platform's own official recovery and reporting process. Every major platform has one, even though it can be slow and unclear to navigate. Avoid third parties who claim they can bypass a platform's security — this is never a legitimate path and can make things worse.
Once access is restored, secure the account immediately: change the password, enable two-factor authentication, and review who has administrator access.
If you're unsure how to proceed or the process feels overwhelming, FGL provides guidance through the platform's own legitimate recovery process — see the Social Media Account Recovery service for details.
